The making of a jianbing – Beijing’s greatest street food

I love jianbing. Really, really love these tasty, cheap, nutritious egg pancakes. This guy is my regular man. He sets up near Pinnacle Plaza every morning and whenever I’m staying with my dear friend Scott Kronick, I set out in search of my pal, usually pedaling a kids bike around in a stupor. When I find him, I often buy two… they cost about 2 or 3 rmb (about 40 cents)…sometimes I take them to Starbucks and buy a 20 rmb coffee to go with, which always seems kind of funny to me. I took this video in June, and watching it makes me want a jianbing in the worst way. Maybe that’s why it took me a few months to post.
