The Ultimate Soul Train clip – the O’Jays featuring ReRun

Well, I’m a little late weighing in on the sad demise of Don Cornelius because I didn’t think I had anything special to add… until I found the following clip. It was hard to pick a favorite Soul Train clip because there are so many wonderful ones – or so I thought until the inimitable Howard Bernstein forwarded this. Yes, the O’Jays are spectacular, singing “Love Train,” one of the great songs in soul history… but as always the Soul Train dancers are what make it.

At about 1:05, a dancer who appears to be the immortal Fred “Rerun” Berry from What’s Happening appears and goes into the brilliant slow motion dance move, clearly yelling at his dance partner to join him. She responds in kind. Just watch and feel the awe.
