Alan – I'm presently facing the daunting decision to accept a transfer to our Beijing research and development center. I've lived a comfy, albeit stagnant, life in Southern California for the past 12 years and am in much need of a jolt. Being single and without kids, my life circumstances are far different than yours, so it should seem like a no-brainer to accept this opportunity and embrace the adventure. However, its still a bit overwhelming. I came across your book serendipitously while trying to find a Beijing immersion guide. Frankly, I didn't want to read some organized list of how-tos and recommendations. I wanted to read real life experiences so your book was the perfect find. I embraced every word, emotion and experience you expressed in the book and it has helped me tremendously as I weigh this decision. My "look-see" trip to Beijing is coming up very soon and I simply can't wait. Just wanted to say thanks for writing this inspiring book.

    Hi, Alan,

As a Chinese native who has been living in the States for the past 15 years, I am thoroughly enjoying your book right now. It somehow refreshes my memory on Beijing, a city where I grew up and now become so unfamiliar to me.
I recently got an offer to move back to BJ and work a large software company. I am very much looking forward to it, so as a part of the preparation, I am reading Big in China.
